Intro to Spooling
Spooling Overview
We offer a wide range of spooling commands to facilitate your custom workflows. These tools allow for quick creation, dynamic view options, and robust management. All commands are located under the spooling panel.

These tools deliver the following features
- Quickly define spools through start and stop elements, a standard window selection, or even automatically by defining HxWxD and weight.
- Ability to seamlessly modify spools by adding/removing/borrowing parts from existing spools or even completely combining two or more as well.
- Create all needed sheets, views, and schedules
- Automate time consuming dimensions, numbering, and annotation of spool sheets
- Automatic placement of spool continuation tags, spot coordinates and slope tags on the spool sheets

Spool Settings
As mentioned, our spooling features are completely tailored to your individual standards. Whether you would like to see certain tags on your spool sheets, or want to have your spool status changed when defined, you will find many options available to you in Spool Settings.

Once inside, you will notice the wide range of options available. It is important to note, you can configure any of these settings at any time so feel free to spend time here to learn what each controls.

Settings
- Renumber spools when created or modified - This option will use your current renumbering settings to renumber the spooled components.
- Enable Continuation Tags - Define the tag and path to the RFA. With this option enabled these tags will automatically be placed in the spool, notating the connecting spool number.
- Enable Spot Coordinates - Places spot coordinates and elevation on the opening of the spools and/or the top of hanger.
- Enable Spot Slope - If the pipe is sloped in the spool then this slope tag will be placed automatically.
- Enable Viewport Tags - Places the defined tag at the bottom of each viewport
- Enable Dimensions - Global option for enabling dimensions in spools.
- Leader length
- Dimension style
- Maximum number of fabrication parts to dimension setting
- Spool status settings - Updates the status upon these actions
- Spool manager values option - Apply these value to the assembly only or assembly and parts within the assembly
- View Templates option
- Assign View Values: When a View Template has been set for the viewport family in the spool viewport properties, this option will copy run Revit's Apply View Properties command on the viewport and set the View Template to "None".
- Apply View Template: Uses the spool templates's viewport View Template setting.
Creating Spools
- Define Spools: Use pre-select (works with Element Filter) or window selection to define your spool assembly. This method supports the inclusion of Duct, Pipe, and MEP Fabrication categories
- Define Spool Run: Select start and end point(s) of the connected elements. *These parts must be ITM elements and must be connected.
- Autospool: Define maximum width, depth, length and weight for your spool and this feature will automatically apply those requirements and activate the Define Spool Run. Simply select your first part of any pipe or duct run and the direction for the tool to traverse the run.
- Modify Spool: The default operation allows you to select a spool to edit and the ability to add or remove parts to the spool you are editing. You are not limited here and can choose to select parts that both are and are not currently in another assembly. This action will also provide you the option to update subsequent views/sheets as well to keep information current.
Spool Manager
The Spool Manager is your one stop shop for your projects spool information. Here you can both see information about spools in the model and also have access to a host of commands. Some examples include batch create spool sheets, rename, update, create print sets, PCF export and much more.
