Global Configuration Settings

Global Configuration Settings

Summary

This feature allows users to standardize configuration settings globally throughout all projects.

This feature is available in any tool that is compatible with Batch Exchange such as Parameter Sync, Data Profiles, Report Manager, etc.

  • You can easily locate which settings are Global within any tool by blue text and the Is Global column with the check box selected.

Usage

  1. Global Configurations are applied from a Batch Exchange file .eVGlobal and can define configuration settings in many different tools including Parameter Sync, Colorizer, Workset Manager, Macro Automation, Report Manager, Data Profiles, Data Tables, and Description Builder.
  2. Global Configuration files are automatically loaded into the system based off of the Network Configuration Path defined in Workstation Settings.
As well as the User Profile folder where Roles and Permissions are written to, the EM installation folder which is C:\Program Files\eVolve\eVolve Mechanical for Revit 20XX\Resources\Content\ and the Family Browser custom library location.
This means if you have an .eVGlobal file in any of these locations they will be automatically loaded into the software.
  3. To View which Global Configuration files have been detected and loaded you will need to go to Settings ⮞ Select Global Configuration Settings and click OK.
  4. To create a new Global Configuration Setting, launch the Configuration Exchange tool under the Utilities panel. Then select the row/s you want to make Global and click Export Selected.
  5. Then Save it as a .eVGlobal file in a place of your choosing. Preferably the path set in Workstation Settings or the installation folder discussed above.
  6. Once completed, go to the Global Configuration Settings and select Refresh Global Configurations or a restart of the Revit software will load the previously exported .eVGlobal file.

Window Overview

  • Disable for this project checkbox - When checked any detected global configuration files are disabled and will be removed from their respective tool menus.
  • Detected Global Configuration Files - List of eVGlobal files detected from Global Configurations Path, User Profile folder, Product Installation folder, or Family Browser custom library location.
  • Refresh Global Configurations - Refreshes the program to look for new .eVGlobal files in the locations named above.

Tips and Tricks

  • If you have a Global Configuration Setting and a local project setting with the same name that apply to the same tool set the local project setting will take precedence.
