Points Manager

Overview

The point manager allows you to manage the points and export them. You do not have to select the elements, the point manager will display all points available based on the option you choose:

  • Points by View - Displays points in the open active view.
  • Points by Project - Displays all points in the project, regardless of your view settings.

Point Manager Fields

Like the other eVolve dialogs, the point manager dialog allows you to group your data by any column heading. By default, we group the points by the "Nested" information.

Is Nested
  • No - an eV_Point is contained within the view/model, but is not nested within another element.
  • Yes - the view/model contains an eV_Point which is nested within another elements such as sleeves, floor drains, etc.
Points contained within Fabrication Hangers are considered as nested points.

Host

If Nested = Yes then the Point Manager will list the name of the host family. For example, the point eV_Point is nested into Round Strap Hanger, therefore Round Strap Hanger is listed as the Host.

Other fields in the Point Manager

  1. Number - The numerical/alphanumerical value assigned to the point.
  2. X - the x-axis(east/west) coordinate.
  3. Y - the y-axis(north/south) coordinate.
  4. Z - the z-axis(elevation) coordinate.
  5. Description - detailed information or summary regarding the point.
  6. Type Name - For families, eVolve lists the Type Description of the Family. This column is exported into the point file, its purpose is filtering to make more accurate selections.
  7. Layer - Information used when exporting a TFL point file.
    1. For Fabrication Hangers, eVolve uses the Service Name as the Layer.
    2. For eV_Points, the Layer field is empty and may be user defined.
  8. Pending Action
    1. Error - indicates a problem with the data listed for the point.
    2. Modified - displayed prior to committing changes if the data contained within the row is different than the data contained within the model. Clicking Apply will commit the changes and clear the Status indicator.
    3. Computed - Rows are not editable. e.g., all Fabrication Hangers are Computed.
Point number, description and layer cannot be edited on "Computed" points
  1. Error Message - If Error is displayed in the Status column, eVolve will display a description of the problem.

Using eVolve's Dialog Grids

Actions Ribbon

  1. Auto-Number - Applies numerical/alphanumerical values to multiple selected points.
  2. Bulk Update - Applies changes to values for select fields on multiple selected points.
  3. Export Grid Data - Exports the grid state (the current arrangement of the columns) into a .csv or .xlsx file of the rows selected in the manager. e.g., users may rearrange the columns to export Y,X,Z instead of X,Y,Z.
  4. Export Points - Creates .csv or .tfl of the rows selected in the manager.
  5. Origin - Choose which reference point system the X,Y,Z coordinates are based on. The rotation of the Project Base Point is to orientate the model to "True North".
  6. Use True North - Choose to export based on the Projects True North Orientation. If not used, the angle specified in the Origin option is used.

Auto-Number

Auto-numbering points

  1. From the Point Manager window, select the desired points from the grid, click the Actions on Checked menu, and click Auto-Number.
  2. From the Auto-Number window, type a value in the Starting Value dialog box and click OK.
Points are renumbered sequentially in the order they appear in the grid. Alphanumerical values must end an numerical value.
While the modified values appear in the cell(s), the changes have not been committed. Before closing the Point Manager window and possibly performing other actions you MUST click Apply to commit the changes, failure to do so will result in the loss of all modifications made in the session or a data conflict when performing other actions.

Bulk Update Information

Applying bulk updated to points

  1. From the Point Manager window, select the desired points from the grid, click the Actions on Checked menu, and click Bulk Update.
  2. From the Bulk Update window, select the desired field from the Field Name menu, type a value in the Value dialog box, and click Apply.
  3. From the Bulk Update window, continue updating or click Close to end update session.
While the modified values appear in the cell(s), the changes have not been committed. Before closing the Point Manager window and possibly performing other actions you MUST click Apply to commit the changes, failure to do so will result in the loss of all modifications made in the session or a data conflict when performing other actions.

Export Points

Exporting points

  1. From the Point Manager window, select the desired points from the grid, click the Actions on Checked menu, and click Export Points.
  2. From the Save Point Export File window,
    1. Navigate to the desired save location
    2. Enter a value in the File Name dialog
    3. Select the desired format in the Save as type menu
    4. Then click Save.
  3. Continue working in the Point Manager window or click Cancel to close.

Export Grid Format

Exporting grid data

  1. From the Point Manager window, select the desired points from the grid, click the Actions on Checked menu, and click Export Grid Data.
Make sure the columns are arranged properly before clicking the Export Grid Data button.
  1. From the Write Point Manager data to Excel window,
    1. Navigate to the desired save location
    2. Enter a value in the File Name dialog
    3. Select the desired format in the Save as type menu
    4. Then click Save.
  2. Continue working in the Point Manager window or click Cancel to close.
Tip: Use Grid States if you have multiple common export formats in order to save these configurations.

Custom Coordinates

Export (Legacy)

Exports the eM_Point family which is not displayed in the Point Manager. Upgrading to the eV_Point family is recommended.
